What You’ll Do
The Fitness Instructor / Intervention Assistant provides engaging physical education instruction while supporting students with disabilities in accessing the curriculum and participating successfully in school activities. This role promotes lifelong health and wellness through physical education while collaborating with teachers, intervention staff, and families to ensure all students receive the support they need to thrive academically, socially, and physically.
This role is a dual role: part-time Fitness Instructor, part-time Intervention Assistant.
Physical Education Instruction
- Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based physical education lessons using the school's approved curriculum.
- Teach sport-specific skills with an emphasis on soccer, tennis, and other fitness activities.
- Create a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment that promotes physical fitness and healthy habits.
- Assess student progress, maintain accurate records, and prepare students for school fitness events and competitions.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe fitness environment and oversee equipment inventory.
Student Support & Inclusion
- Provide one-on-one and small-group support to students with disabilities during classroom and school activities.
- Assist in implementing IEP accommodations, behavior plans, and instructional supports.
- Reinforce academic, behavioral, and social-emotional skills in collaboration with classroom teachers and intervention staff.
- Support students in developing independence, confidence, and positive peer interactions.
- Participate in IAT and IEP meetings as requested and assist with implementation of student support plans.
Student Supervision & School Operations
- Supervise students during instruction, transitions, arrival and dismissal, lunch, recess, and other assigned duties.
- Maintain positive classroom management and implement school-wide behavior expectations consistently.
- Ensure student safety at all times and promptly report injuries, behavioral concerns, or safety issues.
- Assist with field trips, school events, and extracurricular activities as assigned.
Collaboration & Family Engagement
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, intervention staff, therapists, and families to support student success.
- Communicate with parents and guardians regarding student progress as appropriate.
- Foster positive relationships that support students' academic, physical, and social development.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Valid Ohio teaching license or Educational Aide Permit, as appropriate for assignment.
- Successful completion of required state and federal background checks.
- Experience working with school-age children, including students with disabilities, preferred.
Work Schedule
- School hours: 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
- Attendance at staff meetings, professional development, conferences, and required trainings.
